In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, tuberculosis (then known as “consumption”) was a major health concern. The hospital had separate colonies for patients with tuberculosis, often in tents or simple wood-framed houses located away from the main building.
Pictured here are two such colonies, one for women and one for men.
