Dr. Hershfield, a board-certified psychiatrist based in Sparks Glencoe, Maryland, earned his medical degree from the New York State University College of Medicine in 1971 and completed his residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals Program in 1974. He served as superintendent of Sykesville Hospital from 1986 to 1993.
A Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA, Dr. Hershfield has held several leadership roles, including Area 3 Representative, Recorder, and Speaker of the Assembly (2010–2011). He also served as President of the Maryland Psychiatric Association.
