Dr. Whitehead, native of Lynn, Mass. received his medical degree from Cornell University College of Medicine in 1931. He became a staff member at Utica State Hospital, advancing through several positions and in 1941. In 1952, he was appointed as the sixth medical director of Buffalo State Hospital and directed operations until retiring in 1962. He went on to serve as hospital director 10 years and became the coordinator of education for the University at Buffalo Medical School’s department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Whitehead continued to serve as the coordinator of education for the University at Buffalo Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry and served as the American Psychiatric Association, Speaker of Assembly from 1965-1966.
