Dr. Weinstein earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham in 1976 and completed his residency in psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (1976–1979), where he also served as Chief Resident. He has practiced psychiatry for over 30 years and is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Additionally, he is a Credentialed Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management. His broad expertise, extensive training, and decades of experience contribute to a comprehensive and personalized approach to treatment.
Dr. Weinstein previously served as Director of Outpatient Psychiatry at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he currently holds the title of Clinical Associate Professor. He has remained deeply engaged with the American Psychiatric Association, participating in several key committees, including the Caucus of VA Psychiatrists and the Caucus on Religion, Spirituality, and Psychiatry. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the APA, Dr. Weinstein also served as Speaker of the APA Assembly from 2009 to 2010.
