Dr. Fitz-Gerald is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. She earned her medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the same institution. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with additional qualifications in addiction psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. Dr. Fitz-Gerald is recognized as a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatrists.
Dr. Fitz-Gerald has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as Speaker-Elect, Recorder, and Speaker of the APA Assembly. She has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the APA Area V Resident Fellow Mentor of the Year Award (2021 and 2016), the Nancy C.A. Roeske Award, the Irma Bland Award, Psychiatrist of the Year by the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association, the Public Affairs Network Award from the APA, the District Branch Newsletter of the Year Award from the APA, and the APA’s Carol Davis Ethics Award.
