Dr. Young earned her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, Geffen School of Medicine in 1982. She completed her residency in General Psychiatry at UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute from 1984 to 1987, followed by a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from 1986 to 1988.
An active and dedicated member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), Dr. Young has served on several key committees, including the APA Joint Commission on Government Relations (2000–2003), the Council on Advocacy and Government Relations (2008–2013), and the Council on Medical Education and Lifelong Learning (2014–2017). She also played a crucial role on the APA Finance and Budget Committee from 2013 to 2017, helping to shape financial policy for the APA and its charitable Foundation. A Distinguished Fellow, Dr. Young received the APA’s Warren Williams Assembly Speaker’s Award in 2015 for her outstanding contributions in psychiatry and mental health in Area 6 (California). She also served as Speaker of the APA Assembly from 2013 to 2014.
