Dr. Blumenfield earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1964 and completed his residency at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn Program from 1965 to 1968. He is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist specializing in clinical consultations, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacology for adults. He holds certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and received additional certification in Psychosomatic Medicine from the same board in 2005.
A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), Dr. Blumenfield served as Speaker of the APA Assembly from 2006 to 2007. He is also a Past President of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry, serving from 2012 to 2014.
