Dr. Pozios is a board-certified physician in forensic and general psychiatry. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Tufts University, completed his residency in general psychiatry at the University of Michigan, and received specialized training in forensic psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University. Currently, Dr. Pozios serves as the Chief Medical Officer of Oakland Community Health Network. Throughout his career, he has treated children, adolescents, and adults in diverse settings, including psychiatric emergency departments and correctional and forensic facilities. Additionally, he is a former president of the Michigan Psychiatric Society and has previously held roles as Speaker-Elect and Recorder for the APA Assembly.
Dr. Pozios is a passionate advocate for reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. He has worked with government agencies, media outlets, and non-profit organizations to address the connections between mental illness, violence, and popular culture. His expertise in violence risk assessment, mental health in media, mental illness stigma, and ethical issues related to public safety is reflected in his academic publications and contributions to mainstream media, including The New York Times, Wired, The Hollywood Reporter, and The Daily Beast.
