Latest Developments in the Assessment and Treatment of Disability in Severe Mental Illness (presented at IPS in 2014)
Dr. Harvey is the Leonard M. Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Division of Psychology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, as well as a Senior Health Scientist at the Bruce W. Carter Veterans Administration Medical Center in Miami. He previously held faculty positions at Emory University School of Medicine and Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he also served as Chief Psychologist at Mount Sinai Hospital, and worked as a Health Scientist at the Bronx and Atlanta VA Medical Centers. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1982. Dr. Harvey’s research has long focused on cognition and functioning, with extensive publications on aging in schizophrenia, functional impairments in severe mental illness, the cognitive effects of typical and atypical antipsychotics, and the role of cognitive-enhancing agents in conditions such as schizophrenia, dementia, affective disorders, and traumatic brain injury. He also directs an annual international conference on cognition, which serves as an official satellite meeting of both the International Congress on Schizophrenia Research and the Schizophrenia International Research Society.
