Dr. Auerback, native of Toronto received his medical degree in 1938 from the University of Toronto and completed his residency in California where he held several hospital positions before starting his private practice in 1944. From 1970-1983, he was a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco and named by former President Nixon to the President's National Committee on Alcoholism.
Dr. Auerback was a leader in his field and played a key role winning public approval to construct an 800-bed general hospital with one-fourth of the beds dedicated to psychiatry. He was an APA Life Fellow, served as Speaker of the Assembly from 1959-1960 and Vice President of the Association from 1966-1967.
