Dr. Flamm, born in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Long Island College of Medicine in 1943. He completed a rotating internship at Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn and went on to train in pathology and internal medicine at Cincinnati General Hospital. After practicing internal medicine until 1956, he pursued a psychiatric residency at Kings County Hospital and a fellowship at Bronx Municipal Hospital and Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Dr. Flamm became the first chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT, and held numerous academic and administrative roles at Bronx Municipal Hospital, Downstate Medical Center, SUNY, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and Yale School of Medicine. A Life Member of the APA, he was actively involved in advocating for mental health access and insurance parity. He served as Speaker of the APA Assembly from 1989 to 1990.
