Dr. Bluestone was born in New York City, NY, and earned his medical degree from Middlesex College in New Jersey. He completed his psychiatric residencies at Overbrook Hospital and Rockland State Hospital before serving as a U.S. Army psychiatrist. Additionally, he pursued psychoanalytic training at New York Medical College. In 1966, he was appointed director of psychiatry at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, where he later founded the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Court Psychiatric Clinic. He also served as Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, fostering a strong teaching affiliation between the hospital and the college.
A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Bluestone played an influential role in the organization at local, state, and national levels. He served as President of the Bronx District Branch and the New York State Psychiatric Association. His leadership extended further when he was elected Speaker of the Assembly (1983-84) and later became the Area II member of the APA Board of Trustees.
