Dr. Pearce earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis in 1967 and completed his residency through the Indiana University School of Medicine (Merrillville) Program from 1970 to 1974.
He established a private practice specializing in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. His leadership roles included serving as Deputy Representative of the Indiana Psychiatric Society (1978–1984), President of the Indiana Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (1990–1991), Assembly Recorder (1998–1999), and Assembly Speaker (2000–2001). He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).
