Rare Books Catalog

The Melvin Sabshin, M.D. Library & Archives began in 1949 when the APA’s first Medical Director, Daniel Blain, M.D., invited APA members who were authors to sign and donate their books to APA. This collection of autographed books became the foundation of the APA Library. Today, the Library holds approximately 1,700 rare books covering subjects ranging from medicine and psychoanalysis to anthropology, witchcraft and occult sciences, community and social psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine, and child psychiatry.
