During the APA Board of Trustees meeting in December 1973, APA President Alfred Freeman, M.D., calls for a press conference, supporting the proposal of the Nomenclature Committee chaired by Robert Spitzer, M.D., to delete homosexuality from DSM-II, which is approved. Featured in Psychiatric News, the January 2nd issue in 1974 featured the APA’s Board of Trustees ruling that “homosexuality…by itself does not necessarily constitute a psychiatric disorder.”
