Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, M.D.

Theresa Miskimen-Rivera, M.D., is chair and medical director of the Department of Psychiatry at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey. With more than 30 years of experience in public sector clinical practice, her work has focused on expanding access to psychiatric care for bilingual and bicultural communities and developing innovative intercultural clinical programs. She has also held appointed roles under three New Jersey governors, addressing critical mental health issues at the intersection of technology and care delivery, university mental health, and youth suicide prevention.

Dr. Miskimen-Rivera serves as a delegate of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to the American Medical Association Section Council on Psychiatry. She is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists and a clinical professor of psychiatry at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

A leader at both regional and national levels, Dr. Miskimen-Rivera has held numerous positions within the APA, including president of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association, Speaker of the APA Assembly, member of the APA Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, and vice-chair of the Joint Reference Committee. She also chaired the APA Board of Trustees Ad Hoc Workgroup on Insurance. In addition, she is a past secretary general of the American Society of Hispanic Psychiatry and has served as an advisor and presenter for the internationally recognized “Changing Minds, Advancing Mental Health for Hispanics” initiative.
