Dr. Henry Anonymous
At the APA's 125th Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas, Dr. John Fryer joined a panel called "Psychiatry: Friend or Foe to Homosexuals? (A Dialogue)" To protect his identity, he appeared as "Dr. Henry Anonymous," wearing a baggy suit and mask and speaking through a voice-distorting microphone.
He opened with, "I am a homosexual. I am a psychiatrist," which shocked the audience—many were hearing a gay psychiatrist speak openly for the first time. Fryer didn’t reveal his true identity until 1994 at the APA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.
